Magda passed peacefully from this life to the next at her home the afternoon of January 11, 2012.
The elder daughter of Laurene Hansine Jorgensen Miller of Horsens, Denmark and Maximillian Miller of Wheeling, W. Virginia, she was born May 6, 1913 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. A Graduate of Lake Charles High School, she was secretary-bookkeeper for Piel Construction Co., I.T. Hart Insurance Agency, and a real estate agent with Bob House Agency.
As a member of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Parish, she served as longtime member and Directoress of the Altar Guild, was a member of the Ladies Sewing Circle which made fair linens for the church, and was a member of Seniors of St. Michael's.
Magda attended one of the first Louisiana Cursillios.
Earlier, as member of St John's Lutheran Church, she was member of the Ladies Aid, secretary for the Louisiana AAL and served as organist for many years. She also served as organist for St. Paul's Lutheran Church at their beginning.She was a past president of T.S. Cooley School PTA, and a charter member of Gulf Coast Bird Club.
Magda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 34 years, Ernst Carl Emil Piel, and younger daughter, Marcia Maxine Piel Gardiner.
She is survived by her elder daughter, Petrea Carolyn Piel, and grandsons Capt. H. William Jordan and wife Hien Tran Jordan, great- grandchildren James and Natalie Nguyen of Lake Charles; Marc K. Jordan and wife Laura Jane Cox Jordan of Austin Texas; her younger sister Agnes Miller Elkins, niece Dr. Laurine Elkins-Marlow and husband Dr. William and their daughter Synnove of College Station and Houston, Texas; niece Dr. Eleanor Elkins and son Julian Elkins James of San Angelo, Texas; many nieces and nephews in Oklahoma and many cousins and extended family here.
Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 14 at St Michael and All Angels, and the Service of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at St Michael All Angels.
Pallbearers are William D. Gardiner, Frank M. Riling, Dr. William Marlow, Charles C. Cox, Capt. William Jordan, Jacob Cox and Marvin Williams.
Honorary pallbearer is Marc Jordan.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to St. Michael's And All Angel's Organ Fund or to the charity of one's choice.
The family wishes to thank Amy Tompkins, Vivian Simon and Leontine LaChapelle for their patience and loving kindness in caring for "Miss Maggie".
