Malcolm B. Avery, 83, of Moss Bluff passed away at 12:50 PM on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in a local hospice facility.

Mr. Avery was born on June 4, 1936 in Trees City, LA, was raised in Sulphur where he was a graduate of Sulphur High School and moved to Moss Bluff in 1970. He received his bachelor’s degree in environmental science from McNeese State University. Mr. Avery retired as a laboratory supervisor for petrochemical plants. He was a lifelong faithful member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was very active in the church community.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and dancing but his greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 60 years, Geraldine McLeod Avery of Moss Bluff; children, Mark Avery, Sr. of Moss Bluff, Melissa Anderson (Eddy) of Moss Bluff, Grant Avery (Betty) of Moss Bluff, Terry Avery (Linda) of Panaca, NV, David Avery (Nora) of Chattanooga, TN, Naomi Morey (Tracy) of Burley, ID, Melanie Welch (Joshua) of Orange, TX, Matthew Avery (Elizabeth) of St. George, UT, and Tracy Combs (David) of Suffolk, VA; siblings, Wanda Kelsey (Frank) of Nottingham, England, George Avery of Oberlin, and Joyce Bates of Knoxville, TN; thirty nine grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren and two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey Carl and Ella Marie Avery.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 27, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Presiding and officiating will be President Aaron Young. Burial will follow in the New Ritchie Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Friday from 12:00 PM until the start of the service.

The family would like to give a special thank you to his wonderful caregiver Winnie Briley and to Harbor Hospice for their loving compassionate care.
