Mamie Irene Trahan Smith

Mamie Irene Trahan Smith, 95, of Lake Charles passed away at 6:15 PM on Friday, January 20, 2023 in a local care facility.

Mrs. Smith was born on August 24, 1927 in Estherwood where she was raised.  She moved to Lake Charles in 1967 and attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. 

She took pleasure in cooking, sewing, crocheting and playing Pokeno with a group of ladies.  Mrs. Smith was an avid Astros fan.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Winfred Broussard, Jr. (Betty) of Lake Charles and Vida Henry of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Brent Broussard (Danielle), Drew Broussard (Stephanie), Shawn Michael Henry, Sr. (Whitney), Barry Henry (Stephie), Bryan Henry (Melisa), and Nadine Dickerson (James); and sixteen great grandchildren and one great grandchild in law.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Winfred Broussard, Sr. and Jennings Smith; parents, Ovey and Louise Trahan; siblings, Daniel, Ovey, Harold, and Joseph Trahan, Mary Abshire, and Rena Mire; and son in law, Duford Henry.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  The Rev. Paul Jessen will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM in Estherwood Memorial Cemetery in Estherwood, LA.  Visitation will begin on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM.  Visitation will resume on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
