Marcelyn Marie Swire, 58, of Lake Charles died at 11:12 PM on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 suddenly in her residence.
Mrs. Swire was born on December 21, 1954 in Omaha, NE and lived in Carlyss most of her life until moving to Lake Charles following Hurricane Rita in 2005. Mrs. Swire was a graduate of Sulphur High School and graduated from Sowela Technical Institute with a nursing degree. She worked at W.O. Moss Regional Hospital as a nurse for 21 years. In 1991 she became an instructor at Delta Technical Institute where she was currently employed. She attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Vinton.
She enjoyed gardening and had an amazing collection of salt and pepper shakers.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 33 years, Wilson Swire of Lake Charles; a son, Bradley Swire and wife Katherine of St. Francisville, LA; four step sons, Terry Swire and wife Priscilla of Lafayette, Steve Swire and wife Theresa of Sulphur, David Wayne Swire of Lake Charles, and Robert Swire of Moss Bluff; four siblings, Darrell Zumalt and wife Berta of Pasadena, TX, David Zumalt and companion Chip Walley of New Orleans, Steven Zumalt and wife Peggy of Cabot, AR, and Faith Ruminer of Cabot, AR; a granddaughter, Allison Swire; and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Rev. Robert Zumalt.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Vinton. Pastor Gerard Little will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Garden Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Friday in the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Saturday in the church from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
