Marcie Lafleur Moss Mecklenburg

November 10, 1949 — May 3, 2011

Marcie LaFleur Moss Mecklenburg went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 3, 2011. Surrounded by family and friends, she was at peace and had found joy in the promise of seeing the face of Christ.

Born in Lake Charles on November 10, 1949, Marcie graduated from LaGrange High School in 1967. She attended Northwestern State University and thereafter received a B.S degree in Sociology from McNeese State University. Throughout her life, Marcie held several titles, including Gatorette drummer, Alpha Delta Pi sorority sister, (charter) Kappa Alpha Rose of the Delta Xi chapter, teacher, mother, wife, sister, artist, business owner, adventurer, hero, encourager, aunt, Nanny and "the other grandmother" to her sister's grandchildren.

Marcie's greatest joy was her family and being a mother.

Mrs. Mecklenburg is survived by her mother, Toney LaFleur of Lake Charles and by her husband, Fred Mecklenburg of Houston, TX; her daughter, Sara Moss of Dallas, TX; sons and daughters-in-law Allen and Courtney Mecklenburg of Twenty Nine Palms, California, and Geoffrey and Nancy Mecklenburg of Houston, Texas; her sister, Melinda Veron and husband J. Michael Veron; her niece and Goddaughter, Amy Welsh and husband, J.D. Welsh; her nephew and Godson, M. Shane Chapman, M.D., and wife, Nicole Pace, M.D.; her nephews, John H. Veron and Dylan M. Veron and; her niece, Katharine L. Veron; her great-niece, Camille LaFleur Chapman, and her great-nephews, Harrison P. Chapman, Connor P. Welsh, Aidan C. Welsh, and Brennan T. Welsh; her large extended family including Verdy Veron, Mark McDow, her Godmother and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Marcie's family is especially grateful to all of her friends and loved ones and the caregivers that shared in her life.

Spending much of her adult life in Houston, she never forgot her "Cajun" roots, which came from her grandparents, Israel and Franciose LaFleur of Lake Charles, LA and Floyd and Bertha Toney of Leesville, LA. An artist like her mother, Marcie learned to appreciate the beauty of nature from her late father, Emile LaFleur, in his boat on the bayous and marshlands of South Louisiana. She often expressed how grateful she was to her parents for teaching her to see beauty and for giving her the strength to share it with others.

Her true passion was capturing the grace and beauty of God's creations through the lens of a camera. Marcie found happiness in simple pleasures like Christmas sugar cookies, bluebonnets, root beer floats and the wonderment of a red bird on a winter's morning. Marcie loved her family deeply and enjoyed creating memories with them and with her friends.

Once Marcie wrote, "I have been blessed with love, support, and encouragement from so many and I am so grateful. I hope somehow the blessings are passed on through my photographs." Those around her were certainly touched by the blessings of her photographs and so much more. Her heart, spirit, love, and faith all shone with God's radiance and will live on in the minds and hearts of those that loved Marcie and whom God loved through her for keeps.

She would have us remember that what we need to succeed is desire and trust that the Lord has provided all that we need. And, as we are promised in Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."

Memorial services will be held at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Lake Charles, LA on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Visitation will begin at 11:30am, followed by mass at 1:30pm. Fr. Keith Pellerin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cenacle Retreat House in Houston, TX or St. Martin de Porres church in Lake Charles, LA, both places where Marcie found great comfort and peace.
