Margaret Ann Anderson

Margaret Ann DeBlieux Anderson, known simply as Mrs. Ann or Queen Ann to those who knew her well, was born and raised in Natchitoches Louisiana to Alvin DeBlieux and Annette Bloch DeBlieux. Her father owned the only 2 pharmacies in town, The New Drug Store & DeBlieux Pharmacy, & built the house they would call The Two Goose house on Cane River. She was raised to be a true Southern Belle. Ann embodied everything it meant to be a Southern woman. She was elegant, gracious, and loyal.

She initially attended Stephens College in Missouri. There she met the love of her life, Robert Ross Anderson who played football (tailback) for the University of Missouri. She would often tell the story of how she was friends at Stephens with Dawn Wells before she became famous for being Mary Ann on Gilligan’s Island. She transferred to LSU and was on the Homecoming Court and sitting on the sidelines during Billy Cannon’s infamous 1959 Halloween TD run.

Bob & Ann married on November 23, 1960, in Natchitoches, LA.

Their first son, “Bobby”, was born January 31, 1962. Ann joked that when she was being discharged from the hospital, the labor nurse said, “see you next year”, and they did see her the following year. Blessed again with a second son on May 27, 1963, Kelley James, was born.

There is no doubt, her 2 boys were the light of her life.

Being married to a man who was in oil and gas, Ann & Bob lived in several different towns throughout the south; Shreveport, Beaumont, Mobile, & Houston before settling down in New Orleans. She later moved to Lake Charles and then spent the last year of her life in Vail Valley, Colorado where she temporarily moved after Hurricane Laura but stayed as she always enjoyed the mountains. In her younger years after college, she worked in women’s clothing and was very active as an alum with the Chi Omega sorority. She was the ultimate entertainer for her husband’s business arranging parties with clients. After his untimely death in 1981 she became a business entrepreneur and opened Ann’s Muffler & Auto Repair outside of New Orleans which she successfully ran for many years until her retirement. Ann was very close to her brother, Alvin DeBlieux, who preceded her death by 30 years. They were both talkative people and when together there was constant laughter and storytelling. Ann was loved by all who met her and that was a lot of people. We used to laugh that she “never met a stranger”. She would strike up a conversation with anyone at any time regardless of why she was there or where she was going. She loved her family and friends and was so proud of her sons and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, Alvin DeBlieux and Annette DeBlieux, and her brother, Alvin DeBlieux. She leaves behind her two sons; Kelley Anderson and Robert Anderson, MD (Rachel), grandchildren; Alexandra Anderson (Matt Mascioli), April Anderson, Lauren Anderson, Ross Anderson, Parker Anderson, & Rollins Anderson, nephews; Mike DeBlieux (Mary), Chris DeBlieux (Cherrie), Scott DeBlieux (Tammy), nieces; Jodie Maeuer (Bob), Dolly Creppel (Earl), Ciccy Khoury (Tony), Annette Nichols (Donny) and many great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 16, 2021 at University Baptist Church, 4505 Lake St., Lake Charles, LA from 12:00pm - 2:00pm followed by a funeral service.  A reception will follow. Private Interment services will be held at Consolata.
