Margaret Ann Baker

Funeral services for Margaret Ann Woods Baker of Conroe, TX, are being held at First Baptist Church of Conroe, TX on August 31, 2011.


She had lived in Lake Charles for 36 years before moving to Texas, and was employed by the Calcasieu Parish School Board for 10 years and was a Professor of Library Science at McNeese State University for 20 years until her retirement in 1989. In 1968 she was awarded one of 10 HEW Fellowships, chosen nationwide, to pursue a Master's degree in Library Science at LSU. She also held a Master's degree in Educational Administration from McNeese. She was a member of many National, State, and Local organizations, both professional and honorary. She was secretary of the McNeese Credit Union for 20 years. A lifetime member of the Baptist Church, she served in many capacities; mainly as a church librarian. She was a librarian at First Baptist Church in Lake Charles for 25 years, and for 5 years in First Baptist in Conroe, TX. Mrs. Baker was born on June 16, 1921, in Rogers, AR and passed away on August 28,2011.

She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Curtis C. Baker, former Professor of Education at McNeese; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bryce Woods of Rogers, AR, and her brother Joe Bryce Woods of Norcross, GA.


Mrs. Baker is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Robinson of CO, and Janie Acker and husband Randy of Conroe, TX; grandchildren Ross Acker and wife Carolyn of Coos Bay, OR, Nancy Acker Moore and husband Jeremy of Houston, TX, Seth Acker and wife Amy of Montgomery, TX, Colonel William A. Robinson, Jr. and wife Eve of Smithfield, VA, Brian Robinson of Miami, FL, Stephani Thomas and husband Charles of CO; also two nephews, Bryce Woods Jr. and David Woods of Atlanta, GA, and 6 great grandchildren.


Local arrangements will be handled through Johnson Funeral Home with interment in Highland Memory Gardens in Lake Charles LA. Graveside services will be August 31, 2011 at 4:00pm.
