Dr. Margaret Jane Carr, 78, of Lake Charles died at 6:24 PM on Sunday, March 25, 2012 in a local hospital.
Dr. Carr was born on August 8, 1933 in Mount Vernon, IN where she was raised. She began teaching first and second grade in the 1950's and then taught at several Evansville high schools before moving to Lake Charles 31 years ago to work at McNeese State University as a professor, retiring in 1995. Throughout her teaching career, she influenced many students' lives. Following her retirement, Dr. Carr was also instrumental in beginning and operating S.A.G.E. and Elder Hostel Program at McNeese.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed visits to Florida to visit her brother Jimmy and his wife, Pat. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed caring for cats.
She was a member of St. Luke-Simpson United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen Godsey of Mount Vernon; three sons, Dale Carr of Seattle, WA, Bruce Carr and wife Lynn of Evansville, IN, and Steve Carr and wife Jennifer of Houston; and eleven grandchildren, Heather, Kelly, Aaron Migdon, Neil, Grant, Hamilton, Allison, David, Kelly, Morgan, and Blake Carr; and a great grandchild, Jackson Dupuis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Homer Finn; her brother, Jimmy Finn; and a nephew, Daniel Luther Finn.
Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
