Margy Ann Fitzpatrick Smith

March 18, 1930 — June 24, 2022

Margy Ann Fitzpatrick Smith passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on June 24, 2022 at the age of 92. Her loved ones are comforted knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord.

Margy was born on March 18, 1930 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Henry Hess Fitzpatrick and Mary Martha Fitzpatrick. After moving from Kansas to Louisiana, she met her husband, Charles Egan Smith Jr., while working at the Cit-Con Oil Refinery in Lake Charles. Margy and Charlie were happily married for 33 years and had two children, David and Charlotte. After Charlie passed away, Margy found love again and remarried Raymond Clawson whom she met through church. They lived together until his death.

Margy was active in both her church and her community. She was a charter member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lake Charles where she served as an elder and sang in the choir. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Lioness Club, and the Investment Club. Margy also advocated for others through her work as a rape crisis volunteer and as a teacher's aid in the first hard-of-hearing kindergarten at Watkins Elementary.

Margy is survived by her two children, David Barham Smith and Charlotte Smith Moss (David); her grandchildren, Emily Moss Wilson (Greg) and Katherine Moss Thompson (Jimmy); and her six great-grandchildren, Jay, Julia, Owen, and Maria Thompson and Walt and Max Wilson.

The family would like to thank everyone who loved and cared for Margy, especially her long-time sitters, Latoya Johnson and Hester August, who showed her unconditional kindness and compassion every day. Thank you also to Amedysis Hospice Care and her nurse, Katherine Devillier, for helping guide and comfort Margy and the family through her final days.

Margy was a loving wife and mother and doting grandmother. She was a talented artist whose hobbies included painting, drawing, crochet, knitting, and, later in life, coloring books. She will always be remembered for how well she loved her family, her strength, and her feisty sense of humor and spirit.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  Dr. John Robert Black will officiate.  Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM and continue until the start of the service.
