Marie Hortense Whiting

Marie Hortense Whiting, 95, of Sulphur, LA died on May 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born on October 22, 1928, to Gilbert and Renia Duhon in Lake Charles, LA. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, sewing, and selling Mary Kay products enjoying the process helping one person at a time. Marie also enjoyed the outdoors gardening and being around friends and family. She was a member of Our Lady Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Marie resided in Sulphur, LA for the majority of her life when she wasn’t traveling the world with her dear husband Richard.

Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Evanna Coubello Lowery; stepson, Dave Whiting; 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Lowery Verret (husband Jason Thomas Verret) and  Jeremy Aladin Lowery  (Laura Ashley Talbot) ; 3 step grandchildren, Heather Rowe, Melissa Sprouse, and Bonnie Anderson; 3 great grandchildren, Isabella Marie Verret, James Anthony Lowery, and Lilliana Grace Lowery; sister-in-law, Sally Duhon; and numerous nieces and nephews and most of all her favorite nephew, Jacob Aaron Lowery.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Whiting; 2 brothers, Adam Duhon and Joseph “J.G.” Duhon; and one sister-in-law, Betty Duhon.

Pallbearers: Jeremy Lowery, Jacob Lowery, Jason Verret, Darrell Duhon Jr, George Garlington, and Danny Richard Jr. Honorary Pallbearers: James Lowery, Mason Coco, and Michael Duhon.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with a rosary at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Burial will be at Duhon Cemetery in Hackberry, LA under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home at a later date. Fr. Andy DeRouen will officiate services.
