Marie Louise Bossier Foret

Marie Bossier Foret, 96, died Sunday December 23, 2018 in her retirement home.

Mrs. Foret was a native of Gramercy, LA born to Joseph Augustine Bossier and Ida Foltz Bossier.  Marie Louise Bossier Foret was the last of her generation.  She was preceded in death by her two brothers and four sisters.  She was also preceded by her husband of sixty-six years, Edward Lynn Foret and a son, Dr. John Thomas Foret.

Mrs. Foret was a graduate of Lutcher High School where she was a majorette and awarded a swimming scholarship to LSU where she attained a Bachelor degree in Home Economics.  She continued to swim into her 90’s. Following graduation, she was hired as a food purchasing agent for the United States Army, allowing her to spend the years of WWII in California and Fayetteville, AR.  She continued her education through the years at McNeese State University where she attained a Masters of Education.   She worked many years in education, as a Teacher of Science, a Career Counselor and retired as Principal of Jake Drost School for Exceptional Children.  She was a wonderful cook, avid reader and enjoyed sewing for her family.  Mrs. Foret was an admirable woman of grace and faith devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her church the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  She will be most remembered for her love of family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Dr. Lynn Foret and wife Sharon of Lake Charles; three daughters, Kathy Gurney and husband Win of Tarpon Springs, FL, Jeanne Chapman and husband Dwayne of Baton Rouge and Suzanne Freeman and husband Robert of New Iberia; daughter-in-law, Sally Savage Foret of Lake Charles; 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.  Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate.  Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery.   Visitation Friday will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM in the funeral home.

The pallbearers for her services will be her grandsons; Scott Gurney, Stephen Chapman, Michael Freeman, Matthew Freeman, Dr. Andrew Foret, Dr. Jonathan Foret, Dr. Ryan Foret, and Dr. Casey Chapman.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Gurney and Dr. Adam Foret.

Her granddaughters will be participating in services at the church; readings, Alison Freeman Howes and Ashley Foret Dees and gifts, Marie Chapman Russell and Amanda Foret Azzerello.

The family would like to express gratitude to Villa Maria Retirement Center and especially to Marie’s caregivers Pam Thomassee, Jean Seal, Rhonda Kiser, Tiffany McArthur, Nikita Starlard and Debbie Johnson for making her final years such comfortable ones. Your patience and kindness are greatly appreciated.
