Marie Mercedes "Susie" Long Collins

Marie Mercedes "Susie" Long Collins, 88, of Lake Charles died at 4:22 PM on Monday, October 7, 2013 in a local care facility. Mrs. Collins was born on November 29, 1924 in Lafayette, LA. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute. While residing in Lafayette she worked at Parkinson and DuPuis Engineering Firm. She moved from Lafayette in 1963 and lived in Baton Rouge briefly, working for General Electric. Mrs. Collins then moved to Lake Charles where she lived the rest of her life. She and her husband owned and operated a local successful business, Collins Pest Control, for many years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. Mrs. Collins enjoyed gardening in her spare time. Those left to cherish her memory are a son, John William Collins and wife Margie of Lake Charles; a daughter, Sally Ann Collins of Prairieville, LA; a sister, Sallie Long Dondis of Lake Charles; two step grandchildren, Robin Theriot and husband Sidney and Christopher LaFleur; two step great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Francis Collins; her parents, William and Cecilia Long; a brother, Bill Long; and a brother-in-law, Julian Dondis. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The Rev. Jack Myers will officiate. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. A gathering of family and friends will follow the service in Hardtner Hall at the church.
