Marie Patricia “Pat” Bercier, 90, of Lake Charles passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 in the comfort of her home.
Pat was born on December 21, 1927 in Reserve, La and has lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She had a lifetime love of learning, having attended primary and high school in Grand Coteau, La. She continued her studies at LSU where she earned a Bachelor degree in Journalism. Pat applied her education as an author and photojournalist with several newspapers and magazines and furthered her career as an award winning author of several historical novels. She continued to write throughout her life. Pat later returned to McNeese State University to study her passion of music and history, earning a Bachelor degree in Music. She was a talented violinist, playing in various concerts for the Lake Charles Civic Symphony and enjoyed many years of singing, along with her husband, for the Lake Charles Messiah Chorus. Pat’s Catholic faith was woven through every fabric of her life. She was a founding member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church, a member of the OLQH Choir for 60 years. Daily Mass was a tradition that she held dearly to, as well as meeting weekly with her group of friends in a “sewing” club. Pat loved to dance, sing, and travel; but most of all she cherished her faith and her family. She was a loving mother and doting grandmother.
Pat is survived by her children, Dr. Rick Bercier and wife Elly; Mike Bercier, and Dr. Ted Bercier and wife Pam, all of Lake Charles. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren; great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Glenn W. Madere and Noelie Malarcher Madere; brother, G.W. Malarcher, Jr.; and her loving husband, of 59 years Frederick Lionel Bercier.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 31st at 10:30 AM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church. Father Trey Ange will officiate. Visitation Tuesday, January 30th will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation Wednesday will be from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM in the funeral home.
