Marie Scoggins Santa Maria

Marie Scoggins Santa Maria, 84, of Lake Charles passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013 in a local hospital after a brief illness. Marie was born on July 14, 1929 in Rosepine, LA where she graduated high school. She moved to Lake Charles in 1947 and worked at Kress's Department Store and also at Chennault Airbase. In 1961 she opened Ace Bowling Supply with her former husband, Bo Scoggins. Marie was an accomplished bowler, winning many state and local titles as well as competing nationally. In October 30, 1997 she married her present husband, Don Santa Maria. They became active in Eastern Star and Masons. Marie held many offices including Worthy Matron. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church where she assisted the music ministry by playing the organ. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Daniel "Don" Louis Santa Maria; a son, Douglas Scoggins and wife Kathy of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Brad Scoggins and wife Niki of Longville and Ben Scoggins of Moss Bluff; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Foster and Tera Holifield; three brothers; and one sister. A gathering of family and friends will be held from noon until 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church. An inurnment will immediately follow in the columbarium with Father Peter Cook officiating. Cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Michael's Organ Fund, 123 W. Sale Rd., Lake Charles, LA 70605.
