Marjorie Cook

Marjorie Cook, 82, of Lake Charles passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 in her daughter's residence in Lake Charles.


Mrs. Cook was born in Bellwood, LA and was a graduate of Northwestern in Natchitoches. She moved to Lake Charles in 1948 and worked for Great Southern Life Insurance for over 20 years. She owned and operated The Back Porch in the Cottage Shop district for several years.


Mrs. Cook and her husband traveled extensively, having lived in Greece, Israel, Morocco, and other countries.


She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Grady and husband Robert; adopted son, John Cook Filippidis and wife Barbara of Austin; and a sister, Myrtle Frantom; three step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Cook and her parents, Katie and Eugene Montgomery.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 24, 2011 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Howard McCann will officiate. Following the funeral services, a graveside service will be held in Bellwood Baptist Church Cemetery in Bellwood, LA at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
