Mark “Harley” Sonnier, 47, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in a local nursing home after his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was born and raised in Lake Charles, LA. After high school he traveled when working as a boilermaker. His work eventually brought him to the New Roads, LA area where he lived most of his life.
Mark had a deep passion for the outdoors, especially deer hunting and fishing. He took pride in processing his own venison and enjoyed spending time with friends while mud riding. An excellent cook, he was particularly known for his barbecue skills. Mark was a devout father who cherished his son and loved him the mostest.
He is survived by his beloved son, Talon Blade Sonnier; stepdaughter, Tabitha Jade; his parents, Ellen Davenport Sonnier and Ernest Sonnier Jr.; his brother, Stephen Sonnier (Amy); and his aunts, Madgie Theriot (Sonny) and Paula Davenport Sewell (Keny) and several uncles.
Mark was preceded in death by the mother of his child, Amy Lynn Newman; his paternal grandparents, Madge Sonnier Miller and Ernest Sonnier Sr.; and his maternal grandparents, Theresa and Paul Davenport.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 6:00 p.m. An inurnment of the ashes will take place in Lakeland, LA at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.
Mark's parents would like to thank the hospice workers and the many compassionate employees at Lake Charles Care Center that cared for him towards the end of his life.
