Marlene Manuel, 69, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 after a long bout with cancer. Marlene lived most of her life in the Sulphur, LA area. She graduated from Sulphur High School in 1962 and received her nursing degree from McNeese State University. Marlene worked as a registered nurse in Lake Charles area hospitals. Marlene is survived by her husband, Alton Manuel; her son, Lane Manuel and wife, Mary Ellen; granddaughter, Langley Marshall; mother, Verla Stroderd; 2 brothers, Wayne Stroderd and wife, Donna and Donnie Stroderd and wife, Carol; sister, Phyllis Stroderd; 2 brothers-in-law, Gene Manuel and wife, Grace and Donnie Manuel and wife, Melissa and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Alan; daughter, Gabrielle; father, Tansy Stroderd and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Whitney and Esther Manuel. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sulphur with Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau officiating. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss under the direction of Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume on Thursday at the funeral home 8 a.m. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to your charity of choice in memory of Marlene Manuel.
