Marlene Marie Crabbe Meinscher

Marlene Marie Crabbe Meinscher, a lovely and faithful child of God, was called to her Heavenly home on Monday, June 19, 2023, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born to James Burton and Marie King Crabbe, Marlene was reared in Beaumont, Texas and graduated in 1956 from French High School. As a young woman, she worked for Gulf States Utilities Company, where she met her husband, Julius Theodor “Ted” Meinscher, Jr. Together, Marlene and Ted co-owned and operated Dean’s Feed, Seed, and Hardware in Lumberton, Texas for several years, and following the sale of the store, she worked as a bookkeeper for various companies, including Pump House Supply. In 1981, they moved to Lake Charles, where she was privileged to be a homemaker. Marlene was an avid Bridge player and a member of several bridge clubs in the area. Having lunch with friends was one of her other favorite things to do, but more than anything, she loved her church, St. John Lutheran Church, and participating in Sunday School and Wednesday Ladies Bible Study. As she walked through the days of her illness, her Bible could be found in any given place in her home where she had paused. Marlene rested in Jesus and God’s Holy Word. Her illness drew her closer to her Savior, where she found that “peace that passes understanding.”  

Her beloved son, Russell Wade Meinscher, is left to mourn her loss and cherish her memory, along with her siblings, Charles Crabbe, Lee Crabbe, Alice Reavis and Sharon McKenzie, all of Beaumont, Texas, and her other sister, Ruth McKeehan of Conroe, Texas, as well as loving nieces and nephews. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of almost sixty years, Ted Meinscher, and one brother, James Crabbe. 

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church, 600 University Drive, Lake Charles, Louisiana, and will continue until service time at 12:00 noon.  Pastor Charles Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. 

Russell would like to express to Dr. David S. Chang, Dr. Michael Bergeron and Dr. Gerry Hebert and their staffs his most grateful appreciation for the kind and compassionate care that his mother was given by them, as well as to St. Joseph Hospice, and in particular Marlene’s wonderful caregivers, Amber, Lindsey, Shannon, Mali, Krysta, Kim, and Erica, and also his three aunts.
