Martha Diane Coleman Thompson

Martha Diane Coleman Thompson, 75, of Sulphur, LA passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, October 7, 2020, at home, with her husband of 53 years, Theodore Thompson, by her side.  She had fought a year-long courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Martha was born in Hodge, Louisiana, to Bud and Lodee Coleman, on September 5, 1945, and lived nearly her entire life in Sulphur, LA, mostly at the same corner home in what was called the Maplewood-Hollywood area of Sulphur.  She lived in Lawton, Oklahoma, Columbus, GA, Fort Richardson, Alaska, and Ft Polk, LA, sharing enjoyable military life with Ted.  Many years ago, she worked at Muller’s in Lake Charles, where she met the love of her life, Ted.  She also worked at Chrisope Technologies, working with many of her friends.  She had returned to the work force several years after her daughter entered high school, retiring in 2011.  Martha was a member of Maplewood First Baptist Church, since 1954 and was a member of Joint Heirs Sunday School Class.  She loved being a part of the church’s Operation Christmas Child (OCC), and the Ministry of Caring Cooking Team.  The OCC team prepared Christmas gift boxes for underprivileged children in other countries. She very much enjoyed working and shopping with and for the team.  Martha enjoyed playing cards with her special friends.  She loved decorating for the holidays with her dear friend Ruthie Edwards.  Martha had fun scrapbooking and attending to her flowers.  She enjoyed her family, and family trips to Disney World were really special.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 53 years, Ted; the joy of their life, daughter Penny Simpson; Penny’s husband Erik and precious granddaughters, whom she adored, Madelyn Elizabeth and Savannah Claire;  Connie Coleman, her dear sister-in-law who was like a sister to her; Ruthie Edwards, her dear friend who was also like a sister; and Joycelyn Ramer and other special friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lodee and Bud Coleman, brothers Jeffery Lane and Jimmy Ray, and sister Jenny.

A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Maplewood First Baptist Church in Sulphur, LA.  Even at end of life Martha was thinking of others and requested that attendees stay six feet apart and wear their face masks.  Per her request there will be no visitation, and a private gathering will be held at her home following the service.

Martha also asked, ‘no flowers, please.’  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to OCC of her church and/or MD Anderson Cancer Center, in Houston, Texas.

For the caring treatment given to their wife, mother, and grandmother, the family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Broussard of Memorial Hospital and Dr. Ryan Huey of the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston Texas, as well as the nurses and aides of Heart of Hospice, Lake Charles.
