Martha R. Hardy, 92, of Lake Charles went to be with the Lord on August 15, 2013 at a local hospital in Kingwood, Texas.
She was born on September 17, 1920 in St. Marys, WV to Harold P. and Hazel Gallaher. She was one of five children. She graduated from the West Virginia University in 1942 with a degree in Home Economics and became a dietitian. Her early working years took her to Philadelphia and Boston among others where she worked at various hospitals. Ultimately, she moved to Lake Charles in 1944 where she met and later married Leward Joyce Hardy on December 27, 1946. They lived in the Washington, D.C. area where their three children were born. She was a godly wife and loving mother, homemaker, Sunday School teacher and an active member of Trinity Baptist Church for 54 years.
She was preceded in death in 2008 by her husband of 61 years, Leward J. Hardy of Lake Charles. Survivors include her two daughters, Joan Parker and husband, Ed of Kingwood, TX, and Janet Calhoun and husband, David of Mansfield, LA; and a son, Mark Hardy and wife, Karen of Kingwood, TX. Other survivors include eight granddaughters; seven grandsons-in-law; one step granddaughter; four great granddaughters and three great grandsons.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2013 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Greg Bath will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
