Martin David Johnson, Sr., 68, of Lake Charles, LA died on Friday, January 23, 2015. Mr. Johnson was born September 7, 1946 in Oakdale, LA, was a 1964 graduate of Pitkin High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He has lived the past thirty years in Lake Charles, LA and worked as an Ironworker for the past fifty-five years for the Ironworkers Union Local #678. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Pitkin and was a past member of the Lake Charles Optimist Boxing Club. Mr. Johnson loved deer hunting, hog hunting, fishing, shrimping and crabbing. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband and grandfather, and loved to spend time with his family. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Dorothy Ann Rider Johnson; son, Martin David Johnson, Jr. of lake Charles, LA; daughters, Angela Denise Watkins and husband James of Ragley, LA and Natasha Johnson of Lake Charles; mother, Patsy Johnson of Pitkin, LA; brothers, William Johnson and wife Tina and Howard Johnson and wife Pauline, all of Pitkin, LA; sisters, Nelda Squyers and husband Roger of Brandon, MS, Mary Maddox and husband Houston of Pitkin, LA, and Martha Strother and husband James David of Glenmora, LA; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Johnson; brothers, James William Johnson and Vernon Johnson, Jr.; and grandchild, Hunter Dyson. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Victor Becerra will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
