Martin Lavergne

January 21, 1933 — February 22, 2013

Martin Lavergne, 80, of Lake Charles passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 in the Jennings American Legion Hospital.


Mr. Lavergne was born and raised in Church Point, LA and has lived fifty-five years in Lake Charles. He served the United States Army during the Korean conflict. Mr. Lavergne worked thirty-seven years for Guth Dairy, having started a driver and retired a Manager. He was an avid outdoorsman, whom loved, hunting, fishing and camping and flower gardening. He also enjoyed garage sales, tinkering with motors of all sizes, electrical wiring, lending a helping hand and being a friend. Mr. Lavergne was a Jack of all trades, if he couldn't fix it, he worked at it until he could. He was a member and former President of the Disabled Veterans, a member and former Vice-President of Jean Lafitte Camping Club and a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. He will be most remembered as a family man, devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and siblings.


He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of thirty-two years, Lola Mae Mire Lavergne of Lake Charles; one son, Nelson Lavergne and wife Karen of Lake Charles; three daughters, Elaine Langley and husband Joe of San Antonio, TX, Diana White of Prineville, OR and Marlane Maze and husband Bob of Apple Valley, CA; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; step-sons, Reggie Billedeaux and wife Loretta and Roger Billedeaux and wife Julia, both of Lake Charles and Gary Billedeaux and wife Kala of Sweetlake; eight step-grandchildren; sixteen step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great grandchild; two brothers, E.L. Lavergne of Westlake and Harold Lavergne and wife Loretta; one sister, Ora Royer and husband Orillion and one sister-in-law, Anna Lee Guidry and husband Blue of Lake Charles.


He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Betty Ann Lavergne; granddaughter, Falyssa Van Winkle; parents, Ulysse and Marie Lavergne; one brother, Leroy Lavergne and three sisters, Lavina Quibodeaux, Nell Rose Wright and Elizabeth Comeaux.


Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Monday, February 25, 2013 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Monsignor Danny Torres will officiate. Interment will follow in Prien Memorial Park. Visitation Sunday will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Monday will be from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
