Marvin Vernon Paggen

Marvin Paggen, 73, of Lake Charles died at 8:45 am Saturday, March 10th, 2018 in his residence.

 

Marvin retired from W.R. Grace after 33 years in July 2005. He served as Plant Manager of the Lake Charles manufacturing facility from 1992 until his retirement. He was also in charge of Grace’s packaging facility in Houston, Texas and the Membrane manufacturing facility in Denver, Colorado.

 

Marvin earned a B.S. degree, Cum Laude in chemical engineering from the University of North Dakota and was a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Louisiana.

 

Marvin enjoyed worldwide travel with his wife Carol, especially after his retirement. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. He enjoyed spending precious time with his grandchildren. Teaching his grandson golf and playing board games and swimming with Sarah. Their favorite game at the swimming pool was merman and mermaid. Marvin also enjoyed quiet evenings in his office watching his favorite sport, ice hockey, with his parrot, Tinker.

 

Marvin was very active in the community and the Louisiana chemical industry. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Louisiana Chemical Association, board member of the Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance, Chairman of the Board of Louisiana Manufacturing Political Action Committee, President of the Safety

Council of Southwest Louisiana, President of the Lake Area Industry Alliance, board member of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, served on the McNeese State University Industry Advisory Board, served as Co-Chairman of ICMC Division of the United Way Agency, served as Vice Chairman of LCA LaFeste, board member of the Chamber of Commerce for SWLA, Board of Trustees Public Affairs research Council of Louisiana, board member of the Louisiana Right to work Coalition, served on the Louisiana Governor’s task force on “Promoting Economic Development in LA”, board member on the Quality Council of SWLA Chamber of Commerce, and was actively involved with the Partner’s in Education program with Alfred M. Barbe High School since its inception in 1989.

 

Marvin leaves behind his wife of almost 49 years, Carol of Lake Charles; two sons, Tim and his fiancé Molly of Denver, Colorado and Rob and his wife Jennifer both of Lake Charles; two grandchildren, Caleb and the apple of his eye, Sarah; three brothers, Virgil Paggen and wife Joyce of North Granby, Connecticut, Alvin Paggen and wife Sharon of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and Duane Paggen and wife Sue of Dadeville, Alabama; one sister, Valeria and husband Ron Ouimette of San Ramon, California.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Veronica Ahmann Paggen and older brother, David.

 

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 16, 2018 at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Monsignor Jace Eskind will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday from 8:00 AM until leaving for the church at 9:30 AM.

 

Pallbearers serving will be: Larry Breaux, Steve DeRouen, Ben Garber, Louis Peavy, Ed Richard, and Tim Vaughan.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
