"Mother Goose"

Mary Ann Cannon Dever, 73, of Lake Charles passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Sulphur, LA following a brief illness.

Mary Ann was born in Lake Charles but lived in Big Lake most of her life.  She enjoyed her younger years playing sports in the backyard with her brothers, all the while knowing they were going to get the best of her.  She was a wonderful cook, seafood gumbo and etouffee being her specialty.  She enjoyed many hunting and shrimping excursions with her late husband where she out worked him and many others.  She loved country music and dancing.  Mary Ann’s greatest passion was her Salon.  She opened her own hair salon on Lake Street at Suffolk Manor and later Country Club Hair Salon where she established generations of clientele that she came to love as her family.  She worked as a stylist for nearly fifty years before retiring.  Mary Ann will be most remembered for her spirit that brightened nearly every room and her love of life and laughter.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her brothers, James Ray Cannon of Lake Charles and Howard Cannon and wife Sylvia of Moss Bluff, along with numerous nieces and nephews, former husband and dear friend Jimmy Meaux of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Eddie Dever; parents, James Howard Cannon and Mary Dubard Cannon and one brother, Ronnie Cannon.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, December 18, 2020 at University Baptist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Mary Ann’s brother Howard Cannon will officiate.  Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the church.  A rosary prayer service will begin at 1:00 PM.

In accordance with state regulations, attendees for visitation and services are respectfully asked to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
