Mary Evelyn McCabe Baker, 86, of Lake Charles, LA, passed away at 4:37 PM on Friday, December 17, 2021, surrounded by her family and friends.

Mrs. Baker was born September 11, 1935 in Lake Charles, LA, where she lived most of her life.  She was a 1954 graduate of St. Charles Academy and attended McNeese State University.  She was a very active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, cleaned for Monsignor DeBlanc and sewed over 25,000 Baptism Bibs along with one other lady.  Mrs. Baker was an avid bowler and bowled with the Sumthin Else group for a number of years.  She also enjoyed sewing and loved to bake, especially cakes.  Mrs. Baker was very proud of her Irish heritage and her patriotism.  She will always be remembered for her love of life, scarves, and her contagious smile.  She was a one-of-a-kind that will be missed by all who loved her.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Gaspard and husband Lonnie of Westlake and Jennifer “Jenny” Fontenot and husband Bryan of Orange, TX; grandchildren, Megan Fuselier and husband Daniel of Olathe, KS, Collin Baker and fiancée Kortney Hooper of Moss Bluff, Bethany Rose Gaspard of Westlake, and Bailey Raye Gaspard and companion Cade Conrad of Westlake; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Keaton, Allacen, London, Owen, Grayson, Rylee, Leighton, Weston, Briggston, and Blair; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace H. Baker; parents, James and Margaret McCabe; brother, James; and sisters, Clare, Betty, and JoAnn.

A graveside memorial will be on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum.  Her cremation was entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or to Our Lady Queen of Heaven for Masses in her memory.
