Mary Catherine Cathy Oliver

Mary Catherine "Cathy" Oliver, 58, of Moss Bluff died on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 in a local hospital.


Cathy was born on August 24, 1953 in Lake Charles and was a 1971 graduate of Laccasine High School. She had also resided in Iowa before moving to Moss Bluff 10 years ago. Cathy was previously employed by the Lake Charles Police Department in the patrol and identification departments. After 20 years of service, she retired in 2010 from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office as a detective. She was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church.


She was very involved in her daughter's life and activities. Cathy enjoyed taking part in the Sam Houston Pride and Spirit Band Boosters. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, and cooking. Cathy took pride in amateur photography.


Those left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Amy Rebecca Greenlee of Moss Bluff; four brothers, James Anthony "Jimmy" Oliver of Hecker, Thomas Merle "Tommy" Oliver of Hathaway, Phillip Owen Oliver of La Marque, TX, and Jeffrey Oliver of Lake Charles; and a sister, Dr. Paula S. Oliver of Austin, TX.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice and Claude Oliver.


A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 24, 2012 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Monsignor Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will follow in Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin in the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue in the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
