Mary Elaine Brisco Chenier was born on March 26, 1954, in Opelousas, Louisiana, to the late Frank Brisco and Lou Lastrapes Brisco. She passed away at the age of 71 on March 30, 2025, at her home in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Known as "Elaine" by her family and friends, she often reminisced about being raised by her grandparents, Boniface, and Louisa Gordon Lastrapes. Elaine fondly recalled her childhood, going from house to house on her street, where all the homes belonged to family members.
Elaine attended Holy Ghost Catholic School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She began her career at AT&T as an operator in Lafayette, Louisiana. After three years, she transferred with the company to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she continued to work for many years. Throughout her career, she held various positions, but she particularly enjoyed her role as an Engineering Assistant towards the end of her tenure. After 34 years, she retired from a job she loved due to health issues. Following her retirement, she served as an usher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for several years and volunteered at the ABC Pregnancy Center for five years.
Elaine was a fun-loving woman with a welcoming personality and a laugh that could be heard from any room. She had a generous spirit, regularly donating to her favorite charities. Elaine enjoyed traveling and dining out, but you could also find her happily watching a good movie in her rocking chair. She deeply loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. On special occasions, her family could always count on her to post a birthday message on Facebook. Elaine found joy in tending to her garden, where she grew a variety of beautiful flowers. She lived a life of faith, loved to pray, and said her rosary every day.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Lou Brisco; her godchild Darrel Richard; her sister Frances Richard; her brother-in-law Francis Xavier Richard; and her sister-in-law Patricia Brisco.
Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 27 years, John (Matt) Chenier; her children, Keisha Bowman, Mandi Whidbee (Andre), Skylar Hunt, Henry Hunt V (LaQuienta), Brandon Chenier (Alisha), Jeremy Chenier (Ashlynn); her siblings, Michael Brisco, Frank Brisco Jr. (Charlene), Nazirahk Amen (N'Amana), Cheryl Brisco-Phillips, Edna Marie Brisco, Michelle Brisco-Fields (Paris), Joseph Glasper; her mother-in-law, Mary Enola Chenier; her brother-in-law Gregory Chenier, Mark Chenier (Carla); her grandchildren, Robert (Trey), Kosey, Kadance, Taylor, Skylar P, Hayli, Henry VI (Alex), Harley, Kaleb, Lyric, Rylee, Alaysia, Jeremiah; her godchildren Kristen (Shay)Richard, Channon Chenier; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and best friends Constance Broussard, Carol Jones, and Linda Parsons.
