Mary Frances Ford Conner, 80, of Iowa passed away at 6:52 PM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at a local hospital.
Ms. Conner was born on September 17, 1944 in Winnsboro, LA and moved to Lake Charles/Moss Bluff area shortly thereafter, before moving to Iowa for the remainder of her life. A graduate of Marion High School, Ms. Conner spent many years serving her community through her work with the Calcasieu Parish School Board. She retired as a clerk to the Director of Special Education and later transitioned to a school bus driver, roles in which she dedicated herself with a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment. In addition to her work with the school system, she was a bartender at several local establishments, including the Seafood Palace Lounge, where she was a beloved figure known for her kindness and hard work.
She enjoyed shopping and spending time at trade days. A passionate gardener, she found joy in taking care of her plants, always tending to them with care. Most importantly, Ms. Conner cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, D'Juana Conner and April Conner both of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Eden Landry of Lake Charles, Charlotte Fontenot (Caleb) of Westlake, and Carl Evans, Jr. (Alena) of Lake Charles; three great grandchildren and one on the way; and her beloved furry companions, Gulliver and Izzy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Stephen Ford; daughter, Charlotte Maxwell; and the father of her children, Lee Conner.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 16, 2024 in the Johnson Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the start of the service.
