Mary Elizabeth Watson

Mary Elizabeth Watson, 86, of Merryville, LA died Saturday, February 6, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

 

Mary was born on March 29, 1929 in Merryville, LA to Alfred and Mary Perry.

Mary lived her whole life in Merryville, LA, with the exception of a few years in Abbeville. She loved cooking for her family, and always cooked way more than was needed. She enjoyed canning the produce from their garden and fruit trees, especially pears and figs. Mary was thrifty and had a gift for reusing items. She never wasted anything. Mary loved quilting, and she and her sisters Annie Lee, Addie Ruth, and Iris often had quilting bees, and stayed up all night quilting. All of her children and grandchildren have at least one of her beautiful quilts.

 

She was proud of her children, and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Mary was survived by her two sons, James Lee Watson and wife Dawn of Lake Charles, LA and John Alfred Watson and wife Christi of Sulphur, LA; one daughter, Mae Lynn Beck and husband Rodger of Flatonia, TX; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and one sister, Iris Buford.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Dawson Watson; parents, Alfred Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Perry; one great grandchild, Chloe Elizabeth Andrist; and eleven siblings.

 

Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Green Oak Baptist Church in Merryville, LA. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, LA. Visitation will resume from 10:00 AM until time of service Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Green Oak Baptist Church. Burial will be at Bivens Cemetery in Merryville, LA. Rev. Danny Buford will officiate services.

 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Green Oak Baptist Church, or Bivens Cemetery Association.
