Mary Gladys “Gege” Mouton Pollet was born March 25, 1929, to the late John Mouton and Elise Dugas Mouton and was the youngest sibling of Denis, Raoul, Thelma, and Theresa Mouton.
Mary was raised in Lafayette, LA, and remained in Lafayette until she was married to her beloved husband of 59 and a half years, Thomas Pollet III, on December 31, 1953. She spent the next five years moving around the country - from Florida to New Mexico - the wife of a minor league baseball pitcher. The couple finally settled in Sulphur, LA, where the Pollets raised their two daughters, Louise Pollet Allen (wife of Daniel Allen) and Ann Pollet. As the wife of a coach, she spent much of her life around baseball fields. Although she was rather slight in stature and could never throw straight, she loved the sport of baseball. Able to recite the stats of every player on the team and predict almost every pitch, she was a devoted fan of the LSU Tigers and the Houston Astros, whom she was able to see become World Series Champions in 2017.
In addition to baseball, Mary loved to travel with her husband and spoil her three granddaughters, Sarah Allen Rogowski, Emilie Allen Travers, Gabriella Swett-Pollet, and her great-grandson, Thomas Rogowski. Eternally 39-years-old, she will be remembered as a woman who lived to laugh, never met a stranger, and would never, ever dare to miss a party. Gege was a beautiful and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Mary died on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. At rest, she will join her late husband, Thomas Pollet III; her brothers and sisters; and her niece, Denise Mouton Coreil.
