Mary Gussie Broussard Benoit

April 9, 1931 — September 3, 2010

Mary Gussie Broussard Benoit, age 79, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010, at a local hospital.

Born April 9, 1931 in Lafayette, she was a resident of Lake Charles and a homemaker. She loved to play Bingo and was quite successful at it. Mrs. Benoit also enjoyed her time with her family. She loved having them over and cooking for them, being well known for good cooking. Dancing, gardening, and fishing were also other pastimes for Mrs. Benoit, as well as being a past member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary Post 2130. She will always be remembered for her love and care that she gave to her family and will be truly missed. Preceding her in death was her first husband and father to her children, Alpha Broussard, who was from Creole, and a son, Robert Broussard.

Survivors include her husband, James Benoit of Lake Charles; seven children, Donald Broussard and wife, Karen of Lake Charles, Kenneth Broussard of Lake Charles, Michael Broussard and wife, Elaine of Woodbury, TN, Doris Vincent and husband, Timothy of Flora, MS, Lotta Guidry and husband, Russell of Lake Charles, Lorraine Sellers and husband, Larry of Lisbon, LA, and Keith Broussard of Lake Charles; four siblings, Irby Gaspard of Lake Charles, Dudley Duhon of Bridge City, TX, R.J. Duhon of Lake Charles, and Helen LaFleur of Lake Charles; 20 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September 6, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home. Deacon Scott Conner will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 5, from 12 noon until 10 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will resume on Monday, September 6, from 12 noon until time of service.
