Mary Henrietta Sonnier

Mary Henrietta Sonnier, 84, of Lake Charles, passed away peacefully on Monday April 30, 2018 at a local care center following an extended illness.

Henrietta, known to her family as Henri, was a native of Opelousas and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. She moved to Lake Charles where she met the love of her life, Iver Lee Sonnier, a native of Sulphur. Henrietta was an active and faithful founding member of St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church, where she also served in many organizations, including the Altar Society and Ladies Auxiliary. Henrietta retired after 50 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Lake Charles Country Club.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Davis and Eleanor Richard Chavis; husband and best friend, Iver Lee Sonnier; brother, John Mearl Chavis and a sister Bonnie Chavis Joseph. She leaves to honor and cherish her memory, two daughters, Sandra Sonnier Martin and husband Paul, of Fresno, TX and Kathy Sonnier, of Cypress, Texas; granddaughter, Symone Martin, of Pearland, TX; sister, Lorena Arceneaux; two brothers, Raymond Chavis and Joseph Chavis and wife Dorothy, all of Lake Charles; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family, including her large church family.

Visitation begins at 10:00 AM on Thursday May 3, 2018 at St. Martin De Porres Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM and a Mass of Christian Burial to be observed at 11:00 AM with Monsignor Jace Eskind serving as celebrant. Burial alongside her beloved husband will follow at Consolata Cemetery.
