Mary Jane Belaire Romero, 82, of Lake Charles, passed away on April 19, 2013.
Mrs. Romero was a homemaker most of her life but enjoyed 10 years of employment in the 1970's with Volkswagen Mid-America at the Port of Lake Charles where she worked closely with the Lake Charles Stevedores. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; a fantastic cook; and a marvelous storyteller. She loved to tell stories from the good old days and life during the depression and WWII. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, and had a lifelong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
She was born in Gueydan, La on August 3, 1930 to Calise and Malia Belaire.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edwin; her sister, Rita DeeDee Barker Moore; and her brother, Calise Ki Belaire.
She is survived by her four children: Lisa Landry and husband Joe of Lake Charles; Vicki Thomas and husband Mark of Houston; Shelley Dearing and husband Harry of The Woodlands, TX; Robert Keith Romero and wife Wendy of Carencro; three grandchildren: Brianne Downing, Jesse Dearing and Harry Dearing III; one sister: Louella Hungerford of Gueydan, La; and her little dog, Pepper.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2013 in Johnson Funeral Home. The Reverend Fr. Alan Trouille and Deacon Glenn Viau will officiate. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetary. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Friday will be from 8:00 AM until time of service in the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank the Pallbearers: Joe Landry, Mark Thomas, John Downing, Scott Mouton, Charles Barker and Warren Schindler.
Also, heartfelt thanks especially to Dr. Thomas LeBeau for his wonderful care of our beloved mother, and to the compassionate ICU nurses, Hospice and DuBuis medical staff at Christus St. Patrick Hospital. Jane's home caregivers, Millie and Lenora, are much appreciated and will never be forgotten and to the staff of Emeritus of Lake Charles for welcoming our mother into their friendly community.
Special gratitude and appreciation is extended to Lorna Schindler for being such a treasured friend, companion and daughter' to our mother. The family wishes to thank all of Jane's good friends for making her feel so loved in her last years of life.
