Mary Jane Bertrand

Mary Jane Mere Bertrand, 67, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Lafayette, LA surrounded by family. Mrs. Bertrand was a native and lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She worked many years as a Purchasing Agent in the medical industry, primarily for Rosewood Nursing Center, Oak Park Care Center and Central Supply. She enjoyed flower gardening and bird and squirrel watching. She was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. Mrs. Bertrand will be most remembered for her love of her family, her kindness, generosity and consideration of others. She leaves to cherish her memory, three children, Karen Lynn Bertrand Mericle and finacé, Joe Hutchinson, Jr. of Lafayette, Angela Kay Bertrand Johnson and husband Anthony and Tommie Laine Bertrand Gervais and husband Steven of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Jacob Simon Mericle, Megan Veronica Mericle, Christian Johnson Hoffpauir and husband Jacob, Aaron Blake Johnson, Ashton L. Brewer, Lauren Gervais and Eric Gervais; her mother, Esther Esthay Mere of Lake Charles; three sisters, Lois Darbone and husband Clayton, Doris Voussine and husband Joe, Jr. and Kathy Leger and husband "Woody", all of Sulphur and three godchildren, Kimie Garland, Clayton Darbone, Jr. and Kathy Mere Leger and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-six years, Tommy Gene Bertrand; father, Louis J. Mere, Sr. and brother, Louis J. Mere, Jr. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 28, 2014 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Jeff Starkovich will officiate. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 5:30 PM. Visitation Saturday will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
