Funeral services for Mary Jane Robbins Wilkinson, 91, will be held on Monday, May13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Vinton Methodist Church in Vinton, Louisiana, and burial will follow at the family plot in Nibletts Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Vinton Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the time of the service. She passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024, after her long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 26, 1933, and raised in Platte City, Missouri. She graduated from Platte City High School followed by working as a secretary. She later met and married her husband, “Poochie,” following his military service – a relationship that would eventually last for 65 years. They established a home in Vinton, Louisiana and she worked for Olin Corporation and then a housewife and mother. Later she worked at Calcasieu Marine National Bank and then at Vinton High School before retiring. She was a member of Vinton Methodist Church and several civic groups. She enjoyed painting, arts and crafts, mastering Louisiana cooking, traveling, playing dominos and gardening in her flowerbeds. Above all else, she loved her family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester Vincent Robbins and Blanche Marie Ivey Robbins, her husband, Samuel Melvin “Poochie” Wilkinson, infant daughter, Lucinda Jane, her sisters, Polly Latham (Jerry) and Patsy Baber (John) and her brother, Chester “Robbie” Robbins. She is survived by her children: Deborah Jane McBride and husband Randy of Vinton, Samuel Vincent Wilkinson and wife Denise of Lake Charles, Scott Andrew Wilkinson and wife Mitzi of Carlyss; grandchildren: Scotty McBride, Cody McBride, Matthew Nichols, Hannah Foster, Tabetha Stanley and Bethany Wilkinson, and great-grandchildren, Ashton McBride, Halle McBride, Paisley Breaux, Wacey Breaux, Hattie McBride, Everleigh Nichols, Ellie McBride, Emerson Beasley, Isabelle Foster, Gabe Foster, Kenzie Salazar, Kaden Salazar, and Hudson Stanley. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carol Robbins of Kansas City, Missouri and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vinton Methodist Church, Vinton, Louisiana.
