Mary Joyce Venable Murrell went by “Joyce” of Sulphur, La. entered into the Golden Gates of Heaven on July 30th, 2021 at the age of 89.
She has been in and out of the hospitals and health facilities because of long term illnesses.
Joyce was born on November 8th, 1931, in Church Point, Louisiana.
She is preceded in death by her parents Laurent Venable and Bella Duplechan Venable. She preceded by her siblings, Presley Venable, James Venable, Betty Oliver and Florence Richard. She married George Murrell on January 7th, 1950. She had three children; Gerald Murrell (Sylvia), Vicki Troesser (John) and preceded in death by her son Kelvin Murrell. Joyce had grandchildren; Kristi Doucet (Scottie), Kelli Mousset (Xavier), Joshua Reasoner (Chancie), preceded in death by Leighann Reasoner, Katrina Armer, Kyle Armer, Karah Wilson (Timmy). She had great-grandchildren; Kaytlin, Allee, Molli, Adah, Waylon, Scotti Clare, Jon, Johnathan, Sawyer, Bella, Brycen, Emily, Conner, Carter, Marlee, Madden, Eli and Jackson. Su Joyce had several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joyce graduated from Sulphur High School and Sowela Technical Community College. Joyce started working at the young age of twelve at Louivere' s Jewelry Store; a bookkeeper at Percy Duplechain’s Construction; a secretary for T & P Ironworks; an LPN and surgical Technologist for St. Patrick’s Hospital; Dr, Cuter and Moss Regional Hospital; an LPN Social Worker and she was one of the 1st four original owners of High Hope Care Center exactly 38 years ago on July 30th, 1983, a bookkeeper and owner of Sportsman’s Paradise.
Joyce was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Joyce a very loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, nanny and friend. She’s always put her family and friends first. She had a passion for caring and serving her family and friends. Joyce had a passion for cooking and baking and was well known for her famous chocolate chip and pecan cookies. She always made sure that when you came for a visit you brought some food back home. Her passion for her Catholic faith and religion were prayers, praying the Rosary and receiving the Holy Communion and all the other Sacraments that she was able to receive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11AM, Thursday, August 5th, 2021 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Officiate burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South of Carlyss. Visitation will be at 4pm – 8pm, Wednesday, August 4th, with a recitation of a Cursillo Rosary at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume at 9AM until 10:45 when we leave for Mass.
