Mary "Margie" Manuel

Mary “Margie” Manuel, 81 of Lake Charles, LA was called from her Earthly home on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

Margie was born on January 14, 1939 in Mamou, LA to Curtis Richard and Euna Mae Mayeaux. She was devout in her faith and love of family, at fourteen she moved to Lake Charles and began working in her grandparents café located in downtown Lake Charles. It could be said she learned her love of cooking from them, as it was the labor of love she often gave her children and family.

In 1961 she married Merlin Manuel, welcoming him and his children into her life, and together they completed their family, welcoming a daughter. As she was strong in her faith and family growing up, she lived by example when her husband passed away in 1983. As a single mother she balanced her work and home life, never loosing faith that she would provide for her children. Rice, Gravy & fellowship were often found in her home, bringing together family and friends around the dinner table. She also enjoyed working in her yard and gardens. 

She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband and her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Dawn Mayo and husband Josh and Theresa Sherve and husband Phillip; her grandchildren, Claudia, Olivia, Jada and Lacy; three great grandchildren; and her sister Barbara Naquin.

The family will welcome friends at University Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 beginning at 10am until time of service. Funeral services, led by Father Villarreal will begin at 1pm. Cremation has been entrust to Johnson Funeral Home and she will be laid to rest at Consolata Cemetery in a private service at a later date.
