Mary Mozelle Mclemore Thompson

July 3, 1920 — May 19, 2011

Mary Mozelle (McLemore) Thompson, 90, entered heaven on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Kingsley Place in Lake Charles, LA at 12:30 AM to be with her beloved husband Leroy Thompson.


Mrs. Thompson was born on July 3, 1920 in Ben Franklin, TX. She was a resident of Ville Platte for more than 50 years. Mrs. Thompson served as a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church in Ville Platte for 40 years.


Mrs. Thompson was a three year resident of Kingsley Place Assisted Living in Lake Charles. While there she was chosen the Mardi Gras queen and took this role very seriously. She also enjoyed playing bingo and had to win every game. Feeding the ducks was also a favorite of hers. Shopping was her favorite pastime. She even shopped the day before she entered the hospital. Her daughters would walk her legs off shopping on special trips for her birthday.


She enjoyed a full life with her husband of 54 years. They camped at Toledo Bend, Marksville and various other places. She was a full time homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. Spending time with her family brought a great deal of joy to her life.


She was a loving mother to her two daughters, Janet Lee (Thompson) Brinkerhoff and husband Charles David of Huntsville, AL and Lisa Ann (Thompson) Stagg and husband Dr. Mark of Lake Charles; three grandchildren of which she adored, Mark Lee Brinkerhoff and wife Anastasia of Fort Pierce, FL, Joshua Paul Stagg and Sarah Elizabeth Stagg both of Lake Charles; two precious five month old twin great grandsons, Aaric Rylan and Liam Carson Brinkerhoff of Fort Pierce, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Thompson; her parents, Lester B. and Willie McLemore; siblings, Imogene (McLemore) Lile, Elgene (McLemore) McGuire, Essie Mae McLemore, Dee McLemore, Emus McLemore, and Exie (McLemore) Baker.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Ville Platte. Son-in-law, Dr. Mark Stagg and also Rev. Kevin West will officiate. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue in the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
