Mary Sue Bruce

February 25, 1938 — October 30, 2014

Mary Sue White Bruce was a proud resident of the Moss Bluff community. Her family was one of the original families that settled "The Bluff." She was surrounded by family and friends as she left this earth peacefully on October 30, 2014. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 pm Monday, November 3, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Reverend Luke Liechty will officiate. Burial will follow in Old Ritchie Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 and Monday 10 till start of services. Mary Sue was born on February 25, 1938 to Bill and Winnie Broussard White. She was the 1st of 3 children. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, James Daniel "Dan " Bruce. Those left to cherish her memory are beloved son James William "Bill" Bruce, brother Clark White and wife Nancy; sister Judy Chastain and husband Lee; brother in law Kenneth Bruce and wife Eddy Gene; life time friend, Nelda Bruce Monk; daughters in her heart, Regina Harrison, Missy Jackson Adams, Connie Wieschhaus and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Sue was baptized at Moss Bluff Bible Church as a young child. She became a dedicated member in her church in her earlier years playing the piano. Mary Sue was on the girls' basketball team for Gillis High School where she graduated from in 1955. She started her career at Circle Drilling Company at the Pioneer Building in Lake Charles. Her career was cut short due to the onset of severe crippling arthritis in her hands. She showed amazing grit and determination by continuing her life as an accomplished pianist, seamstress and cook. Mary Sue and Dan moved to Longville in 1975. She became a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Longville. She served as the pianist for over 20 years. She was instrumental in starting the Jolly Elders lunch program. She had a passion for helping the elderly. Mary Sue and Dan returned to Moss Bluff during their retirement years. Mary Sue continued to bless people with her musical talent. She continued by playing the piano at Westwood Baptist Church, local nursing homes and Eastern Star Meetings. Mary Sue had an infectious loving personality and talent to mentor people with her ability to cook. She trained numerous people in her gift of cooking.
