Mary Velma Woodard

October 8, 1936 — April 1, 2021

Mary Velma Woodard, 84, of Lake Charles, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, April 01, 2021 from the comfort of her home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Woodard was born and raised in Church Point, LA and lived most of her life in Lake Charles.  She enjoyed being a resident at White Oak Park where she worked as the Park Keeper for forty years.  She also was keen on current events (especially politics and other news), LSU sports, her favorite TV shows and spending holidays in Dallas and summers in North Carolina. She also had a giver’s heart, spending time and resources (which were often limited) in support of charitable organizations, such as St. Jude, March of Dimes, Catholic services and many others.  A lady of faith, family and prayer, Mrs. Woodard will be most remembered for her love and devotion to the Lord, her children and grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Debra Woodard Pearson (Ronnie) of Dallas, TX, Connie Woodard McDaniel (Carl) of Moss Bluff and Christine Jacob Robinson (Mike) of Highlands, NC; one son, Troy Woodard (Sondra) of Lake Charles; five grandchildren, Shanna Carpenter (Gary), Dana Decareau (Ray), Courtney Watson (Nick), Joshua Williamson (Tricia) and Jessica Dyer (Kris); eleven great-grandchildren and five siblings, Bonnie Guidry and Lois Guidry, both of Lake Charles, Donald Guidry (Elaine) of Vidor, TX, Dale Guidry (Camille) of Moss Bluff and Karen Duplechain (Robert) of Lake Charles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Ray Woodard; daughter, Sandy Woodard Williamson; infant grandson, Jacob Ryan Williamson and grandson, Nicholas Jay Jacob; parents, Leonce and Alita Labbie Guidry, son-in-law Chris Jacob, and one brother, Newman Joseph Guidry.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 07, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.  Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate.  Interment will follow in Old Ritchie Cemetery.  A Rosary service Wednesday will begin at 10:00 AM.  Visitation will follow until the time of service in the funeral home.
