Mathilda Lorraine Alexander

Mathilda Lorraine Alexander, or Lorraine as she liked to be called, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018, in Greenwood, MS. Lorraine was born on May 5, 1932 in Yazoo City, MS to Ernest and Allie Guthrie Eldridge.

 

Lorraine grew up in Jackson and Greenwood, MS. Before moving to the Lake Charles area in 1977. She was well known for working in furniture sales for United Furniture for over 23 years. She returned to Greenwood in 2000.

 

Lorraine is fondly remembered by her family as well as all those who knew her as a “fantastic cook”. Among her specialties were her banana pudding, her Apricot Nector Pound Cake, and her fabulous buttermilk biscuits with her signature “knuckle prints”. She was an avid reader, spending time each day reading her Bible. When not cooking or reading she loved to play a good hand of canasta.

 

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Judy Carol McCullough, along with several brothers and sisters.

 

Lorraine will be dearly missed by her three daughters, Pattie McCullough of Greenwood, MS, Darlene (Daniel) Morgan of Pearl, MS, and Pamela (David) Thompson of Lake Charles, LA. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends at Johnson Funeral Home from 4-9PM on Sunday, January 21, 2018. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 9AM until the time of services at 11AM. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
