Matthew Gerald Meche

Matthew Gerald Meche passed in his sleep the morning of February 1, 2015. He was the son of Susan Crawford Meche of Lake Charles and Gerald Ray Meche of Jennings. Matt was born November 6, 1985, and was a 2004 graduate of Alfred M. Barbe High School. He was a four-year member of the Buccaneer football team, he threw javelin for the track team and he joined the tennis team as a senior where he reached the state championship. Matt was an all-around great athlete participating in all sports growing up making many friends along the way. He was also an avid outdoorsman, loving nothing better than having a fishing pole in his hand. While working toward his degree in education at McNeese State University he assisted coaching the Immaculate Conception Cathedral School and Prien Lake Elementary football teams He is survived by his parents; brother, Andrew Crawford Meche; niece, Godchild, and pride and joy, Lilyanne Louise Meche, also of Lake Charles. He is also survived by half-siblings Kelly O'Quinn of Lake Charles and Jacob Anderson of Sacramento, California; paternal grandparents Ernest, Sr., and Ida Meche of Lake Charles; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lyman "Pete" and Louise Crawford and by his very dear uncle Pete Crawford. He was loved and will be missed by all. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM today at Johnson Funeral Home. A rosary and funeral service to honor his memory will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, at the funeral home with Monsignor Jace Eskind officiating. He will be interred at Highland Memory Gardens thereafter. Pallbearers will be Ian Booth, Jason Crawford, Joey Crawford, Mike Crawford, Stephen Lanza, Crawford Toups, and Logan Toups.
