Maura Dea Cassia, 64, of Moss Bluff, LA was called Home March 15, 2025 following her courageous battle with cancer.
She was born July 12, 1960, in Mamou, LA. She was one of eight children born to the late Georgia Helen Bondick and Jesse Lee Richard.
Maura’s love of family started as a child, being one of eight children, she grew up learning that your biggest strength is your faith, but also family. She was a graduate of LaGrange High School, then obtaining an associate’s degree from Sowela. She was employed by AFLAC as an independent agent for thirteen years.
It was a chance encounter she met Timothy, it was then he knew she was the one because of her love and dedication to family. They were married June 16, 1984, together raised four children, also opening their house and hearts to many others who called them mom & dad/nana & pawpaw. She was a lifelong member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church.
She held many titles in her lifetime, wife, mother, sister, aunt, nana but never friend, because to know her meant you were family. Spending time with her family brought her an abundance of joy, she cherished the time spent with them. As her family grew, so did her heart and the love she shared teaching them family traditions; egg pocking at Easter, Pumpkin carving for Halloween, making her great grandmother Vernice’s Praline recipe, and the days she spent in the kitchen with her family preparing for Thanksgiving.
She was everyone’s biggest fan, offering support or constructive criticism, taking in family members when needed, always holding everyone’s best interests at heart. She made it her mission to ensure everyone knew they were loved and safe in her presence. Don’t think you could scoot out without receiving a proper hug, don’t dare think she would settle for a side hug.
She was welcomed into Heaven Saturday, March 15, 2025 by her parents; sister, Roxanne Guillory; great grandmother, Vernice Bondick; a Godson, Chad Cox; a brother in-law, Curtis Arville, Sr. and her beloved fur baby, Chief.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Timothy Cassia; children, Michael “Scotty” Richard, Mitchell “Keith” (Ashlie) Richard, Deirdra Cassia (fiancé James Doty), Alura “Mindy” (Sam) Cassia, and Lacy (Marcus) Louis; fifteen grandchildren; one brother, Jaime (CeCe) Richard; five sisters, Jessica (David) Benoit, Zelda Chesson, Rosalind Richard, Vanessa Richard, and Jeanne (Gerald) Guidry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
