Maureen McCain Augustine, 55, of Iowa passed away at 4:53 PM on Friday, September 15, 2017 in her residence.
Mrs. Augustine was born on March 29, 1962 in Lake Charles and spent her earlier years growing up in Grand Lake. She was a graduate of Lacassine High School and furthered her education at McNeese State University in Mass Communications and later received her Master’s Degree in Special Education. She worked all of her life and was experienced in a wide range of working fields such as appearing as a morning news anchor for KPLC, marketing for South Carolina Pork Board, working in the Agriculture Department at Texas A&M, the PR Director for US Unwired, and for the past 15 years was a Special Education teacher at JI Watson/Iowa Middle School. Mrs. Augustine also owned and operated her business “Sterling Scapes” and was a sales representative for Silpada Jewelry.
She was very involved in her communities. She was past secretary of McNeese Alumni and former advisor for Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, was a member of the Cal Cam Fair Board, was past Director of the National Junior Hereford for 3 years, as well as belonging to the Krewe of Athena. She also held many titles as a pageant queen including Louisiana Cattleman Queen. Amongst all of her achievements in life, she was also a breast cancer survivor. Mrs. Augustine was a woman of strong faith and was a proud member of the Eastridge Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a former member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Mrs. Augustine lived her life to the fullest and enjoyed landscaping and gardening, deer hunting with her husband, and showing livestock with her children. She will be remembered for her humble, kind spirit and will be missed by so many.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 7 years, Kevin Augustine of Iowa; two children, Dillon Stewart of Iowa and Brittany Stewart Onxley (Alex) of Sulphur; a step son, Tyler Augustine of Lake Charles; a grandson, Grayson Onxley; parents, Vernon and Jolene McCain of Iowa; five siblings, Lex McCain (Jana) of Springhill, LA, Curt McCain (Becky) of Gonzales, Wade McCain (Marlene) of New Braunfels, TX, Candace Stutzman (Thomas) of Huntsville, AL, and Kerri Schwerdtfeger (Kyle) of Stratford, OK; mother in law, Patricia Augustine of Fenton; and 11 nieces and nephews.
She was recently preceded in death by her father in law, Bennett Augustine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Alan Weishampel will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will begin on Monday from 3:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until the start of the service.
