Maurice "Reece" Belsha

Maurice “Reece” Belsha was born in Clay County, AL, on April 13, 1932, one of 9 children. Reece was always daddy's "boy", but she was always her mother's "girl". She was a devoted sister to all of her siblings.  After high school, she moved to Atlanta where she worked for Sears & Roebuck.  While living in Atlanta, she met the love of her life, Henry, on a blind date and they were married 11/21/1953, 69 years.  Once Henry was discharged from the Army, they began their married life in West Texas and later moved to Sulphur, LA. Henry worked in the refineries and Reece spent her days creating a loving home for them.

She was a dedicated volunteer in all aspects of her children’s schools.  Sewing parties were hosted by Reece and her friends where they would create outfits for their daughters.  Ginger and Cheryl were her “Muse” as she designed and sewed their prom dresses, various costumes, and ball gowns. Her creativity was seen in the many back-drops that she helped create and paint for her daughter’s Toreador Balls.

Henry was a home builder and mom was right there with him.  To save money she was the painter, cleaner and drapery maker.   

Reece lent her sewing expertise to the Mustard Seed by helping with the “Mission” sewing projects and the “Veteran” quilts.

Reece expanded her role as a volunteer when she devoted many hours to Henning Methodist Church through their Friendship meals program and many other projects. Wearing her pink jacket as her role of Pink Lady for Cal-Cam Hospital was another way that she gave back to her community. She enjoyed volunteering at Care Help and spent many an hour stocking shelves and assisting where needed.

Besides being a devoted sister, wife, and mother, Reece placed volunteering for her community in utmost importance.

Those who knew Reece understood that her biggest roles in life was that of caretaker.  She always put others first.  Without hesitation, she helped those in need.  Her niece said that she couldn’t count the number of times she was there for her mother, as well as her sister, Gladys, and her extended family.

To say that she was the best mom in the world is not an exaggeration. As a mom myself, I don’t “measure up” to whom she was and what she did for others……one day, maybe, one day.
Mom, I hope you know how much we love(d) you and please try to keep Henry “in line” in heaven.  Maybe it’s possible now that you can speak directly with his maker. 
Survivors include her daughter Ginger Belsha Sparks and her husband Stephen Sparks and daughter Rachel; grandchildren Audrey and Derek Stephenson and Derek’s wife Joy Parker.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Pastor Juliet Spencer will officiate services.  A reception will be held at the funeral home following services for Mrs. Reece.
