Maxine Gordon

Maxine Gordon, 92, of Lake Charles died at 8:50 AM on Saturday, November 12, 2011 in a local hospital.


Mrs. Gordon was born on March 5, 1919 to Aristide and Irene Vincent and was a native of Pecan Island. She lived in Lake Charles since 1954. Mrs. Gordon was a graduate of Pecan Island High School and attended Vincent Business College in Lake Charles. She was a secretary for Oak Park Methodist Church for three years before she became employed at University United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Mrs. Gordon retired after 18 years of service. She sang in the Chancel Choir since 1954 and was also a member of the United Methodist Women where she was well known for her devotionals. Mrs. Gordon belonged to the Stonerollers class, was a member of the Eastern Star, and Bible Study Fellowship.


Her favorite past times were reading, bible study, and gardening. She also enjoyed playing the piano and did so regularly at local nursing homes. She had a strong faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.


Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Beth Conner and husband David Conner of Lake Charles and daughter, Diane McGregor and husband Dr. Richard McGregor of Jennings; four grandchildren, Mariet and Clint Conner, David and Andy McGregor; and five great grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Lynden "Dink" Gordon; and two sisters.


The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the medical care providers at Christus St. Patrick Hospital, Resthaven and Landmark Nursing Facilities, Zeb Johnson and the staff of Johnson Funeral Home for such loving care in the past.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the University United Methodist Church. The Rev. Charlie Langford will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday in the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday in the church beginning at 9:00 AM until the start of the service.
