Maxine Routon Candler passed away on January 19, 2013 in Lake Charles.

Born April 9, 1918, Maxine lived most of her 94 years in Lynchburg, Virginia, with the last 11 in Lake Charles. Clarence D. Candler, Jr., her husband for 40 years preceded her in death in 1983. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, a sister and a daughter, Patricia Tuttle.

She is survived by her daughter Marian Richardson and her husband Ken of Lake Charles, 7 grandchildren: Jenny T. Ellis, Emily Tuttle, Abby T. DiSalvo, Zachary Tuttle, and Tyler Tuttle all of Va., Bill (Channing) Richardson of Texas and Beth R. (Don) Lordo of Tenn.; as well as 4 great grandchildren: Reese, Jack Olivia Richardson of Texas and Sam DiSalvo of Virginia.

Maxine attended business college in Lynchburg, Virginia and then worked at the Ideal Laundry in Lynchburg where she met and married her boss. Later she was the receptionist and bookkeeper for 5 surgeons for 24 years until she retired to spend time with her grandchildren. She liked to share her stories about living thru the depression and World War II with her friends and grandchildren. Though her mind was alert and sharp until the end, she was ready to go to heaven.

Maxine was a lifelong member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Lynchburg, Va. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to that church or to a church or charity of your choice. Her funeral service will be held in Lynchburg, VA on Jan. 28, 2013.

Visitation with friends in Lake Charles will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Tuesday January 22, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Mom appreciated the loving care she experienced from residents staff at Villa Maria and her sitters and the staff of Amedisys Hospice. To God be the glory for all He has done.
