Maxine Adelina Ray, 81, died on Thursday, January 20, 2011 in a care facility in Mission, TX.


Mrs. Ray was born on January 22, 1929 in New Orleans, LA and was a life long resident in Lake Charles. She was a graduate of Lake Charles High School.


Mrs. Ray was a dedicated member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd where she belonged to the St. Cecilias Guild. She was one of the first female recipients in the state of Louisiana to receive the St. George Award which was presented by Bishop Schexnider.


She was very active in the community and was involved in many organizations including a life member of the Lake Charles Little Theater, Boy Scouts of America Troop #134, Girl Scouts of America, Campfire Girls, Gingham Ladies, Lake Charles Historical Preservation Society, and the Weeders and Feeders of the Lake Area. Mrs. Ray also belonged to book clubs L'Heure DuLivre and the Mystery Book Club at Good Shepherd.


Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, William R. Ray, Sr. of Mission, TX; two sons, William R. Ray, Jr. and wife Barbara of Pueblo, CO and Mark W. Ray of Lake Charles; one daughter, Vivian A. Ray of Mission, TX; one sister, Irene E. Waters of Clear Water, FL; and two grandchildren, William R. Ray, III of Pueblo, CO and Jennifer Giltner and husband Brice of Fort Collins, CO.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The Rev. Petroula Ruehlen will officiate. Burial will be in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday in the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 AM until time of services.
