Melissa Dawn Silliman

June 27, 1971 — June 20, 2023

Melissa Dawn Silliman, 52 of Many, LA passed away on June 20, 2023.

She was born June 27, 1971 in Sulphur, LA. She attended Grand Lake High School where she was a cheerleader, then moved to Lake Charles and graduated from LaGrange High School.

Melissa had a drive for knowledge, following high school she enrolled in Clarke College, earning a degree in Office Administration. Her passion was to care for others, she then enrolled in USL, followed by McNeese State University where she earned her Batchelor's degree in Sociology.

She was dedicated to her job, advocating for those in her care, and had profound patience with those who had special needs. She was giving and kind, never turning her back on those who needed help.

It was this level of understanding and patience she raised her children with, serving as their confidant, providing guidance, and supporting them. Spending time with her family was important to her; often they traveled for vacations, some of her favorite places being Branson and Galveston Beach.

In 2007 she relocated to Many, LA where she continued to care for the elderly but also to enjoy the beauty nature provides us. She loved walking the trails down to the water and swimming. Photography was another passion, often taking photos of nature, people, and turning them into artistic masterpieces.

She was welcomed into Heaven by a sister, Melanie Boulet; grandparents, JB and Elaine Silliman; uncles Lon, Larry, and Johnny; and one aunt, Carola.

Those left to cherish her memory; a son, Alan Schexnider and fiancé Jinger Sepulvado; a daughter, Cameryn Schexnider and fiancé Bret Thomas; parents, Nelwyn and Edward T. McCain; siblings, Luke (Angela) McCain, Travis (Nicole) McCain; Jake (Kelly) McCain, Barbara Justilien, and Tina Seabaugh.

Celebration of Life services led by Beverly White will be Saturday, July 8, 2023, beginning at 1:30pm in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Following services family will have visitation until 5pm.
