Melva Levingston

February 18, 1931 — August 24, 2012

Melva Papin Levingston, 81, of Lake Charles, La, died on Friday 24, 2012 in her residence.



Melva was Born on February 18, 1931 in Lake Charles, to Louis and Lela Papin. She was a graduate of St. Charles Academy, and was an employee of Calcasieu Marine Bank for 17 years. Melva retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board where she worked at College Oaks Elementary. She was affiliated with Community Christian Church, and a member of University United Methodist Church.

She loved traveling and collecting items. She also enjoyed spending time with her pets.


She is survived by her daughter, Anna Levingston Garrett; stepson Douglas Levington; many friends a niece, a nephew, and great nieces and nephews.


She is preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Levingston; sisters, Estella McCullough, Iva Mae Papin, and Virgie Lee Papin; stepdaughter, Charlotte Levingston Metcalf; and parents, Louis and Lela Papin.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 11 A.M in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Veillon will be officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 5PM until 8PM. Visitation will resume Thursday August 30, 2012 from 8 A.M. until time of service. Burial will be at Prien Memorial Cemetery.
